Reports are coming through thick and fast about herbal supplements in New York being found to not have the ingredients in them shown on the label.
My interest in this comes from working in the supplement industry for many years here in Australia.
There are four major retailers that are being asked to stop selling the herbal supplements.
This is after the New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman made a statement on the supplements in question.
He has asked each of the companies to provide more information about the herbal supplements they are selling after they purchased samples from locations across New York and most of the supplements contained nothing but fillers like asparagus, rice, wheat etc.
The risk involved in this is huge for people with allergies buying these types of supplements as they don’t know what they are purchasing as the labels aren’t correct.
The FDA or US Food and Drug Administration requires that companies verify their products are safe and correctly labelled, although in 1994 a federal law was passed in the USA to exempt herbal supplements.
