What is Brisbane is a good question and without going into a lot of history I will answer this question for you simply and easily
First and foremost Brisbane is a city in South East Queensland in Queensland which is a State of Australia.
Brisbane and its surrounding areas have a population of about 3 million people.
Brisbane was named after the Brisbane River that winds through the Brisbane CBD and the Brisbane name originally came from a Scotsman Sir Thomas Brisbane who was a Governor of NSW in the early 1800’s.
Prior to the settlement and the start of populating where Brisbane CBD is today the main settlement was at a penal colony in Redcliffe which is further north of Brisbane City.
This shut down in the early 1800’s and then moved to North Quay, from the mid 1800’s free settlers were permitted in the area and Brisbane was to become the capital of Queensland after Queensland was proclaimed a separate colony in 1859.
Brisbane is the city where I live and probably will live for the rest of my days and has plenty of things to do for most people and their families.
Brisbane City centre starts with the tall CBD business district buildings following the river line and sprawling back away from it, this is mixed in with the buildings and bridges of old in the city and then flows out both ways to the North Side and South Side with a mix of old and new houses, industrial areas, shopping centres and parks, finally way out into suburbs in between Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast that can be semi rural at times that feel like you don’t even live in a city.
So Brisbane can be what you want it to be and what you make of it, it has something for everyone within its cities boundaries, you just have to come, explore and experience what it has to offer.
Brisbane in Queensland, a place we call home.
