The Beatles album or commonly known as The White Album was released in 1968, it wasn’t actually called The White Album, this was coined as a name as the record cover has no pictures or text on it other than just The Beatles written on it.
I have this double album on cd and also vinyl record version, I have just recently received my vinyl records from New Zealand so I haven’t sighted it for a while as yet as it has been over there in boxes since 1997.
I grew up listening to The Beatles, whether it was at home or around at relative’s places and also many of their songs being sung at parties on guitar.
The White album is constantly one of those albums that still hits the top records of all time charts, which is amazing as we are coming to near 40 years after it has been released, that just shows you how good it is and also this is a tribute the strength of the band itself too.
When I listen to this album I try to listen from start to finish and run through the tracks rather than chopping and changing as the album is a great musical journey twisting and changing through many highs and lows and everything in between, also next time if you are listening to the album, listen through headphones, it gives you a greater appreciation for the skills of the band and also George Martin.
With too many favourites to list on this album, my possible all time favourite might be between Blackbird and Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da.
Another thing to be aware of for when listening to this album is who the song was written by and also who is performing on the song, when looking at the track list and who penned the song you get a feel for where that member of the band was at in their writing and musical journey.
Band and Album Info ::
The Beatles were a band formed in Liverpool in 1960 and the rest was to be written in music history.
The most well known line up for The Beatles is Ringo Starr, George Harrison, Paul McCartney and John Lennon.
Ringo Starr on Drums, George Harrison on Guitar, Paul McCartney on Bass Guitar and John Lennon on Guitar, all of them pretty much played many instruments on many different albums and also they all have sung too on albums over the years.
Of course, sadly a few of the members of The Beatles aren’t with us anymore, which is sad to say the least.
The White album for The Beatles was written and recorded during 1968, during this time the band was fighting amoungst each other and a lot of the songs are recorded with only one band member being present or less than a full group being present, even Ringo left the band during this time which left Paul playing drums on two of the songs and also different band members played different instruments on some of the songs.
The band prior to recording had just returned from a trip to India where a lot of the songs were conceived.
The White Album was also the first release for The Beatles under their own record label Apple, it was recorded mostly at Abbey Road Studios with a few sessions at Trident Studios too.
It was released late in 1968 to a luke warm reception from music writers and reviewers, it still proceeded to hit number 1 in the UK and the USA as well as many other countries.
It still continues to sell and as each new generation of music lovers discover it or are introduced to it by their parents or other relatives, it will still be appreciated for being a snap shot of The Beatles musical past and history and also as integral part of music history as a whole.
