There have been a few others over the years that have filled the stool for AC DC but for me Phil Rudd will always be the drummer for AC DC.
On a personal note I lived in the Tauranga / Mount Manganui area before I moved to Australia and Phil was around these areas then, I had heard about his studio through a guitar tutor I had at the time (Terry Varhalamas) who was doing some work in Phil’s studio on the desk and I knew he had been into my local music shop but I had never run into him.
I was in awe that the drummer of a band I loved so much growing up and still do could live just down the road from me in a small town / semi city in New Zealand and he still does.
Phil was the drummer for AC DC from 1975 until 1983 and then he had a break and rejoined again in 1994 and is still hitting the skins for them today.
Earlier on prior to AC DC Phil was born and raised in Melbourne Australia and played in several bands before the audition for AC DC.
When Phil auditioned for AC DC he was hired immediately and almost straight away in 1976 the band relocated to the UK.
After Bon Scott died tragically in 1980 AC DC continued on with a new vocalist and recorded Back in Black and then Flick of the Switch, Flick of the Switch was Phil’s last album with AC DC until he returned in 1993.
During the time away from AC DC as I have said above, he was leading a lot more simpler life in Tauranga New Zealand where he still lives today on his farm and has recently released his own music with his own band.
The AC DC albums Phil Rudd has played drums on are;
Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
Let There Be Rock
Highway To Hell
Back In Black
Flick Of The Switch
Stiff Upper Lip
Rock Or Bust
There you have a brief look at the history of Phil Rudd the drummer from AC DC, with 12 studio albums under his belt spanning over 4 decades with a band that has released 17 studio albums currently, he has seen and done what most musicians and drummers could only dream of doing over their career and he is still going.
Ride on Phil Rudd from Tauranga, may you keep the groove and beats coming for many years to come.
