Mount Isa Caravan Park, we made it!

This is the second part of Day 8 for my family and I, it was time to leave the Walkabout Creek Hotel and drive the rest of the way to Mount Isa Caravan Park in Mount Isa.

After leaving the Walkabout Creek Hotel in McKinlay we had to stop for lunch still as we hadn’t eaten.

The next best town to stop at for us was Cloncurry.

There is a Puma Roadhouse on the right hand side of the road as you come into town.

They have pretty good food and not too bad prices on petrol too if you need it.

So we had what was becoming the standard, egg and lettuce sandwiches and chips.

Stopping off in Cloncurry meant we only had an hour left to drive before we got to Mount Isa Caravan Park.

Mount Isa Caravan Park and Tourist Village Main Entrance

We were travelling through on a Sunday from Winton to Mount Isa so there was plenty of caravans on the road leading into town.

Which is ok as they are travelling the speed limit just like us.

We made it to Mount Isa Caravan Park

We arrived at Mount Isa Caravan Park and parked outside the main office.

If you arrive before 5pm from memory you can enter through the Abel Smith Parade entrance rather than the entry on Marian Street / Barkly Highway.

It is easier this way to drive straight into the caravan park if you are travelling from Winton.

After checking in, we were off to find our site.

Mount Isa Caravan Park Main Office

There were new owners at the helm of the Mount Isa Caravan Park.

This seemed to be a theme of our trip as there were new managers or owners for most of the caravan parks we stayed in.

Mount Isa Caravan Park was packed to the rafters, new owners.

The Caravan Park isn’t a bad camping ground from first impressions.

Mount Isa Caravan Park Kitchen

The kitchen is big and clean, the toilets and showers are clean too, and the laundry has plenty of machines too.

There is also a swimming pool to use during the hot days.

You can’t escape the dust when you head out west and Mount Isa Caravan Park is no different in this regard.

I’d say to bitumen and keep grass at these outback caravan parks would cost them a fortune so it is easier to leave it as it is.

So just be prepared if it is your first time out if you are dust-phobic and mud-phobic.

We were just lucky we missed all the rain or a lot of these places would have been mud baths which isn’t great when you have kids and travel.

So while I did the Camper trailer setup the tribe set off to find supplies at the local Woolworths.

No Supermarkets Open in Mount Isa?

I might have to note here for you, if you arrive on a Sunday to Mount Isa and need supplies.

Woolworths and Coles aren’t open so you have to shop at Foodworks or the like and the pricing is a little higher in these supermarkets.

So we decided to do a bigger stock up of on Monday.

I finished off the set up of the Jayco before the family got back and we had a quick pasta meal made on the camper trailer stove.

Mount Isa Caravan Park Camping Sites

And then, after a long day it was time for sleep to get ready for a big day out in Mount Isa tomorrow.

Although the sleep was a little disjointed due to the locals that live behind the caravan park making noise through pretty much the whole night.

Lucky we were tired.
