To buy firewood in Brisbane and specifically on the Northside of Brisbane, you would think would be a relatively easy’ish task.
You have the money, you have a fireplace, you have the want, the need and urgency as it’s starting to cool down.
But alas, it was harder than I thought to track down a convenient, cost effective and free delivery of firewood to our North Brisbane home.
For a start, if you can get through the endless list of linked pages and the odd Gumtree/Yellow Pages page that has firewood available but not in your area and all of the the “Buy firewood for North Brisbane” sites of companies that aren’t in Brisbane Northside let alone deliver firewood there, you are off to a good start.
Also many are Tree Doctors and have firewood as a sideline for their business and I found that a lot of these didn’t have firewood pricing at all on their sites.
Where can I buy split and delivered firewood in Brisbane?
There are many firewood companies that are Brisbane based but not specifically here on the Northside.
So after two computer sessions and being quoted delivery fee’s almost as much as the firewood price, I had almost given up.
I was resigned to getting out the chainsaw and helping the father in-law cut up his trees, mind you, they would be damp not suitable for burning this winter.
One good thing about this experience so far is that I now know that not all firewood is created equal.
How firewood burns (burn time) and creates heat (heat generated during burn) are what you’re looking for and there are specific types of woods that are superior in these areas and are better than others.
Hardwood is one of the best for firewood and if it’s aged and dry, it’s the best firewood you can get.
Prices, I have found, has varied a lot from website to website and from phone call to phone call.
Buying firewood, split and delivered in Brisbane to your house
So, how was I going to get firewood to my house in North Brisbane if there isn’t anybody close and not pay a fortune?
A chance visit to the Caboolture Markets over a weekend sorted this out.
I was out with the squids and banished from the house for a few hours (as my Wife had a gathering on), walking around the endless stalls and tents and right at the very end of the show ground was a man, a lady and trailer load of firewood.
On the brochure it read;
- Firewood
- Seasoned Hardwood
- $130 to $160 per cubic metre
- ½ Loads Available
(* Extra Note : This firewood pricing was for local delivery, depending on where you live there may be a small extra cost)
I introduced myself, told him how hard it is to find firewood on the Northside of Brisbane and asked if there was “Free firewood delivery locally” to which I got the reply, Sure.
I’ll call you next week then, grabbed a brochure, bid my goodbyes and left quite happy.
So, great pricing for a trailer load of hardwood firewood coupled with free delivery of the firewood to my North Brisbane home, equals perfect firewood hunting on the Brisbane Northside.
I’m making this call today, so I’ll keep you updated with how it goes and the process.
If nothing, this process reminds me that all is sometimes not found on the internet, occasionally you have to break the suction from your computer chair and venture out into the real world to find services / products.
Sometimes they pop up in the least expected places.
To find firewood, delivered on the Brisbane Northside to our home is one of those times.
