Centenary Park Caboolture, just one of Brisbane Parks

Written by Troy Spro

On the Northside of Brisbane, where I currently live and also just down the road from me is Centenary Park, which is nestled on the cusp of Morayfield too.

It is a big park with plenty to do for the kids (so I’d class it as a Brisbane kids park) and plenty to do for adults too, another bonus, there are a lot of car parks and there is easy access to all areas.

At the entry you have the lake with a walking track around it and this also goes around the park too, there is a kid’s playground at the entry too, with the tennis club, running track athletics club, bowl’s club, dog park (fenced dog park enclosure), bar-b-q area, public toilets and rugby league club there is plenty to look at and there is also a lot going on most days with the sports ground there too.

Most of the time we have taken the kids down to ride or walk around the man part of the lake and feed the ducks, turtles and other birds, this is a good way to waste a few hours on a Sunday afternoon and get some fresh air and see some wild life at the same time.

The council rents the rear of the park too for functions, weddings etc too, so it’s not uncommon to see a bride and the rest of the party strolling through the park too, with the function centre situated inside the park, it is a one stop place for this type of event if you are getting married and a great place to get photos done too after the event.

I proposed to my wife on the hill (well not a hill as such, more of a rise) here too overlooking the water.

Another good point to the park for the exercise minded is the stations around the main part of the lake where you can, no matter what your age, do an exercise every 50 or so metres as you make your way around the track.

There has been and I have witnessed it, a lot of flooding to this park over the years, if we have a big down pour for a long period of time, it seems the parks walking track will go under easily, in the recent years we have had a few big floods so the park cops a hammering but generally comes back from it with a trail of debri around to remind us for the months following.

So all in all a good park to hang out in for an afternoon for young and old with a lot of great places to pop the picnic rug down and read a book too, I hope you can get down here and enjoy as much as we have visiting it over the years.
