Costco opening at North Lakes in Brisbane

Written by Troy Spro

Now I wrote about this earlier on as I heard the Costco opening was somewhere on the Northside of Brisbane, this was at the beginning of 2013.

The speculation then was somewhere in the North Lakes / Mango Hill area and in the last months I have been driving past Brisbane’s first Costco pretty much every day and watching the building being built, seeing the jobs being advertised online and then sooner than later, I’ll see the Costco grand opening at North Lakes in Brisbane.

It s located on the Northside of North Lakes across the road from my local Bunnings where I hangout to get my home handy man stuff most weekends.

Costco Brisbane Australia

So I haven’t been able to find an exact address as yet for the new Costco as it maybe only listed as a lot number during construction, but if you want an easy address for Costco North Lakes I’d type in this information or similar;

Costco North Lakes
Cook Court,
North Lakes QLD 4509

It is just off the highway too and there is an exit to get there, you don’t have to take the main exit to North Lakes, you take the next one up heading North which is Exit 138 the Boundary Rd Exit and turn right at the intersection to go over the overpass.

There will be traffic mayhem I’m guessing when Costco opens, that intersection gets packed as it is let alone having a store opening like Costco in the area which is sure to drag the masses from all over Brisbane to it during the first days, just like Ikea did when it opened on the Southside and still does during their big sales.

Now there may have been a few delays in getting Queensland’s first Costco up and running and there are plenty of articles around explaining different reasons why and also it takes a while, as with any business, to go through the necessary requirements for each state to set up let alone if you are building your premises too.

Another bonus is the employment and jobs that Costco will bring to Brisbane, not only working in Costco but all the surrounding businesses and sundry supply businesses too.

And also the fact that they sell petrol should put a cat amongst the pigeons too in the market place as they are very competitive indeed in this department apparently.

None the less the shopping experience in Costco when it opens just down the road should be a good one and one that I am kind of looking forward to going through.

No doubt, as you have read from me last writing about Costco Brisbane, I’ll be writing about it opening when it does.

I’m just not sure about when it is opening as yet as I haven’t been able to find out any information about this.

I’d say they would have to be sure the building is completed fully and they have all the staff hired and trained in the ways of Costco, so I’m saying that Costco North Lakes would have to open 1st of March to have all this completed adequately, but we will see and I’ll keep you updated if I hear or see anything.

They surely would have to have a grand opening for their first Queensland Costco wouldn’t they?

Anyway, we will see and I wait to see when it will happen, Costco North Lakes awaits and is almost here.

Hi I a member of the cost co chain in Melb they have 2 built there already both are open and were booming. But the hype is wearing off the sane as IKEA unless you live close enough to where cost co is and you have a large family or business or whatever the need to buy ridiculously bulk items it’s kind of not worth the $60 membership or the drive if you live quite a distsnce away. Price wise it is amazing but the sheer bulk of each item particularly fresh groceries you would want a huge family to get through it all before it goes out of date. But items like toilet paper laundry powder it wins in that department but you have to weigh up if your $60 membership will be worth it if you have a friend who joins you can tag along with them one time as their visitor and see how much stuff you purchase but be prepared to pay your friend cash at the end as they will only let you do the one transactions on the members credit card that was nominated as part of their membership.

Thanks Mel and thanks for the extra information as well.

We have a reasonable size family and also live close as well, so you do have some good points about it.

I think for the price for one year it will be a live and learn experience for us and as it’s close we aren’t having to travel across Brisbane to get there.

I think you can easily get excited and buy a big stash of products you won’t have a chance of getting through, level headed shopping may win out in the end I think.

I’m still looking forward to it none the less.

Again thanks for the information, feel free to drop by here anytime.

      Good afternoon Lin,

Costco haven’t given us an opening date as yet either via email or on their website as yet for the North Lakes Brisbane store.
The rumor is that it maybe next month all going well for them in the construction side of things.
I’ll be writing about it as soon as I know though, so keep on coming back and checking here.
Hopefully you are still around then.

Travel safe and enjoy your holiday and travel in Australia!
