Is Costco Wacol going to be the next addition to the Costco machine here in Brisbane?
I have, as you may already know been monitoring the building and construction of the first Brisbane Costco here on the north side of Brisbane. Right up until opening day so I watched it pretty much taking shape from the start to finish even going into the new store on opening day.
We are still shopping at Costco now after the opening and have found what products we use that are cheaper than the rest. And we are also still buying our petrol from Costco, as it is always cheaper there too.
So after spending time writing about the first Brisbane Costco I definitely have been keeping a watchful eye out for any news information about the second Brisbane Costco being built. And the opening and any other Costco’s in Queensland.
Until now there was only a lot of speculation, heresay and wishing by most that they would have a Costco in their area that they can call their own as we do here on the north side.
So is Costco Wacol happening?
There have been a few newspapers reporting that Costco has been looking at a site at the Metroplex Westgate the in Wacol which is a 58 hectare piece of dirt in between Brisbane and Ipswich.
If Costco does choose to open Costco Wacol, the Metroplex is located just off the intersection of the Ipswich Motorway M7 and the Centenary Motorway M5 at Wacol.
So it really is a gateway to South Brisbane with approximate travel times being:
- From Ipswich 18 minutes
- From Brisbane CBD 25 minutes
- From the Airport 35 minutes
If this is the case then the next Brisbane Costco is probably still a fair while away as this site is huge.
And also with many a new Costco popping up all over Australia they will certainly have their hands full at the moment.
So will we be seeing the headlines “Costco Wacol Brisbane Grand Opening Day” soon?
Maybe and maybe not, I’m sure they will have to fight like they did with the other stores here on the north side of Brisbane.
This will be a slow and tedious process as per normal.
None the less one I will continue to monitor, so keep an eye out here for updates.
Costco Wacol Update for You
Just heard this week on TV that Costco are looking at opening 3 stores in the year ahead.
One in Marsden Park, Sydney, another in Epping in Melbourne, and last but not least the opening of the second Brisbane Costco store.
They didn’t say what suburb as yet, so the speculation is still either, Costco Wacol or the other Brisbane suburb that is being bandied about.
I’ll still keep looking.
