The time had come for my next cut and beard trim, it had been a while and the fro was starting to get out of control and the beard was looking scruffy too, so I looked at my Brisbane barber list and it was time to pay The Moustachery Bulimba a visit.
The area that this barber is in is quite a busy little area but there are plenty of car parks around, I ended up getting one right across the road, which was an awesome start.
The building The Moustachery Bulimba is in has a lot of different businesses in it, you have to keep a keen eye out for the signs to find the barber if you park along Oxford Street and then walk to it.
If you do park on the main road, Oxford Street, it is around the side of the building, directly across the road from the Paleo Café.
Where do I start with The Moustachery Bulimba, from as soon as you walk into the barbers it is an experience and everything about it is a story you can tell your friends and family and probably writing about it won’t give it the justice it deserves to be honest as an experience.
First impressions are great, it is smaller than most of the other barbers I have been too but there is plenty to look at with many items from yesteryear.
There certainly has been a fair bit of planning go into this business visually, from the old wallpaper that lines the walls to the banjo and cigar box guitar resting on the walls / shelving.
It has a lot of character and doesn’t feel forced either.
There are two barbers chairs and one bear and moustache trimming barbers chair in the corner.
The music playing is hillbilly country with banjo and guitar, which just adds to the experience aurally too.
The song that was playing when I walked in and sat to wait was a hillbilly cover of Metallica’s The Unforgiven, so you get the feeling of the vibe going on at The Moustachery Bulimba.
My barber today was Brad, he asked if I wanted to partake in a beverage during my cut and then what I was after today.
The standard thanks, short on the back and sides, a zero fade if you can and then a side part on top finishing off with a beard trim and tidy up please.
All taken in stride as Brad has been a barber for a fair while now.
The banter was great during the cut, I found out a lot about the history of the shop and also a few stories about the items around as well.
I also found out that the owner of The Moustachery, who is Robert was down at his new barber shop that is opening in the coming weeks, so guess where I am going next for my haircut and beard trim.
My cut was complete, old school shave at the back of the neck, the side part and the beard and finally it was onto the hot towel to complete the job.
The only thing I’d say would be the size of the place and if there was a large line up it could be a bit frustrating to wait, but worth it.
But pick your times or head over to the new shop and you will, have no worries.
So I’d completely recommend The Moustachery Bulimba, great service, great cut, and a great trim too.
The pricing was very reasonable for the level of service and the experience.
A great little barber shop experience The Moustachery Bulimba was and it was like nothing else around I’ve had so far.
