Moving boxes, love them or hate them, if you are moving you will need them.
I have just moved a bit more up north, so on top of finding a Brisbane removal company, I had to find some cardboard moving boxes as well.
The criteria would be, not too expensive, and also good to moderate quality.
After searching on Google for a while and coming up with pretty much the same results time after time I was pleasantly surprised to walk into my local hardware store and see a pallet of moving boxes sitting there.
All at a good price too.
Moving boxes come in many different sizes and names too.
There are moving boxes, cardboard boxes, packing boxes, removal boxes, moving cartons, packing cartons, shipping boxes, moving box, and last but not least, boxes.
The sizes range from very small to the larger box.
The bigger the moving box you get the sturdier and thicker the cardboard needs to be.
I already had a bit of a stockpile of boxes from the last time we moved, but we needed quite a few more for this one.
The price varies from company to company in the boxes department, as there are so many variables in size and quality too.
So what size Moving Boxes did I use?
I settled with a middle of the road size and thickness moving boxes that I found from Bunnings Warehouse in the end.
And also, as I was spending a fair bit of time down there buying paint and other stuff it made sense to get the boxes from there as I went.
Another bonus about using the Bunnings Warehouse cardboard moving boxes was they are open until 9pm at night.
If you run out and the kids are in bed, you can head down there easily to get more boxes and also packing tape to seal the moving boxes too.
So a win / win situation for all.
The Bunnings Warehouse boxes come in a few sizes.
On their website (in the Storage & Cleaning / Storage / Moving & Packing / Cardboard Boxes menu), they have about 6 choices of moving box.
I used the Wrap & Move 72L Moving Carton Rectangle Light Duty 10 Pack and they don’t list these on their website at all.
The 10 Pack of moving boxes must be an in-store only deal for them.
It might be so their opposition doesn’t get an idea of their best sellers too?
The dimensions of the 72L Moving Carton are 415mm L x 350 mm W x 550mm H, so it was a perfect size for us and the perfect size for moving.
Here is a picture of the 107L size moving carton for you as there isn’t any pictures on the Bunnings website for the 72L size.
These cardboard moving boxes are just a little larger, but they still look roughly the same as the ones I bought.
To make them a bit more solid I taped across the bottom opening first.
Then across the two ends.
Then I put two strips across the top length ways, and two across the top width wise too.
Lastly, I wrapped the tape about 50mm under the lip of the box and ran the tape around the whole circumference.
This last bit of taping not only holds all the ends of tape in to the box more, but also strengthens the moving box too.
It worked for me.
We only had the odd dent in the boxes and no breakages out of the boxes that went into the kitchen.
So if you want good quality moving boxes at a good price, and also that are available while you are packing until 9pm at night, go to Bunnings Warehouse as I did.
They were great and did the job well.
Let me know if you have any other places that sell good quality, cheap moving boxes if you can.
Have fun moving, and remember to sleep!
