If you are looking for something to do on a Sunday afternoon there is nothing better than taking a stroll down the Brighton waterfront at anytime of the year.
We park at Decker Park which is just off Twentyfifth Avenue in Brighton, there usually is plenty of parking and the good thing too is if you are travelling from any part of Brisbane there are public toilets right next to the car park so you can have a wee break before you start your walk.
There is also a kid’s playground in this Decker Park area as well, so if you need a break from the little monsters after travelling for a while, you can do this too.
We have walked around this area many times now and it is good for short or long walks as the walking tracks go both ways from the car park as a starting point and also if you want to ride it caters for this too.
If you are standing in the car park you go left to go under the new bridge to Redcliffe and stand on what is left of the old Hornibrook Bridge, this will only take a short time to get to from the car park and you can turn around to walk back past the car park to do the longer walk after that.
The pavement that runs along Flinders Esplanade and beyond is quite wide so there is ample room for pedestrians, bikes and scooters too.
If you are standing in the car park and go right the walking track takes you all the way to the Sandgate Pier, you go past the retirement home if you’re going this way, this will take you a very long time so remember if you do want to do this long walk you have to get back to your car somehow too, so take this into consideration when you leave.
The path leads you along the waterfront the whole way and so you get to take in the great waterfront scenery as well as having the bridge in the background all the time.
There are drinking fountains pretty much all the way along too which is good.
The longest time we have walked on this path with the squids is about an hour out and an hour back, we got back just after sunset and there was still plenty of light around the car park and so it felt quite safe.
So just type into your navigation device “Flinders Parade, Brighton” and you will find this little hidden gem of a walking path, take a picnic lunch too if you want to walk it off after it, with fishermen, kites, people walking, people on bikes, wild life and kite surfing there is always something to look at in this area.
