I had to find out if can I use call forwarding when my iPhone is off as I went on a bit of adventure to New Zealand to see my family and I wanted to use my iPhone to take photos only while I was over there.
This seemed like a good question to ask and I had a few others too.
- Can I use call forwarding if my iPhone is off?
- Can I disable the iPhone and just use the camera while overseas and use no data?
- Can I turn off my GPS so the iPhone won’t use data to find out where I am?
Seems easy huh?
I still had to look it up and find out to be safe….
And the answer to the above is “Yes” to all three questions.
Can I use call forwarding if my iPhone is off?
Yes, here is how you do it.
- Go to Settings
- Scroll down to PHONE and press
- Scroll down to Call Forwarding and press
- Tap on the Button Slider
- Select the phone number to forward to, or enter in the number you want to forward to
- Exit back to main screen
- Done!
Now you should see a little phone with an arrow coming out of the middle of it in the top section of your screen.
This setting is set externally of your phone, so by setting your Call Forwarding to on, you can turn your phone off or operate it without getting calls.
Also a good point I read about too, if your phone is getting really flat and you are out anywhere, you can forward your calls on to a friends number so they can get your calls if they have sufficient battery life.
This can be particularly handy if you are on a boy’s trip away and you are expecting a phone call from your wife and your battery is just about dead, forward through, answer as per normal, problem solved.
Can I disable the iPhone and just use the camera while overseas and use no data?
Yes you can.
At the airport just before boarding do the above steps and forward your calls, then do the below.
- Go to Settings
- Press the Airplane Mode Button Slider
This should turn green and then you are in full Airplane Mode and ready for the flight.
Airplane Mode turns off Wi-Fi and your Bluetooth so your phone doesn’t have the ability to log on to networks or run the battery down by looking for the Internet everywhere.
Now when you are back on your main scree you should see a little airplane in the top corner.
This means Airplane Mode is on.
Can I turn off my GPS so the iPhone won’t use data to find out where I am?
Last but not least, turning off the Location Services so your phone doesn’t get traced half way around the world.
- Go to Settings
- Scroll down until you see Privacy
- Tap this Privacy line and it will take you through to the next menu
- Tap on Location Services
- Slide the green to the left, you will get asked “Turn Off”, tap this and the Location Services will turn off
So there you have it, I wanted to only use the iPhone for photos while I was away and this was the best way to do it and also stop any calls and data usage too.
Keep an eye out for my New Zealand photos and also a few other things I picked up while travelling over there.
