It was that time of year again where most of our insurances are due, this includes our house insurance, which I have already spoken about and also now our car insurance, so being minimalistic and doing quite a bit of ground work with the home and contents it was now time to find out about car insurance in Brisbane and how we can save money.
We are with AAMI for home insurance and also the car, so the same thing applies in regards to the increase we had from last year to this year.
We had the same cover letter sent out for the car insurance renewal but a price hike added to it too.
Now if you haven’t read the reason from my last insurance writing the reason for the price hikes are mainly due to where you live and if there are a lot of claims in your area where you are living.
This is obviously a simple explanation of it and I’m sure there would be a blanket component added to it somewhere that includes the whole of Brisbane, but I’m sure a big company like AAMI Insurance would have all bases covered in regards to how and when they can increase their prices without ACCC knocking on their door.
Now to help you save money like we did on the car insurance if you want to.
It’s easy again like the house, go online to AAMI and find their car insurance quote section, by just being there an entering it all online we saved just over $160 bucks on what we were quoted.
Rest assured they gave us a $100 bonus for getting our car insurance online with them so you are off to a great start in saving right there and anything on top of that is a bonus.
I’m guessing at this stage, as with the house insurance, that the company is split into different departments and the car insurance side is the same, the in house phone answering arm has more running costs than the internet online arm of the business which is automated.
It’s more than likely the way of the future where all your insurances will be paid for online and this is just getting people used to the process and also registered for the process too.
They ask all the normal details going through this process as you would expect, have you claimed before, the other drivers, has you car been in an accident or have damage already, where it is stored, age of driver, how long you have had your license, license plate number of the car, what type and model of car it is, have you made modifications to the car etc etc and these are just in a yes or no format.
Car insurance comes in a few different types too which you have to choose from, you get the choice of comprehensive and third party, we go for the full cover comprehensive insurance so we know we are covered if anything happens, third party only is usually the cheap car insurance option.
Then the process goes through the excess options and AAMI has a flexible option where you can increase the excess manually for your car and this brings the price of your insurance down.
What I liked too is at the top of the last page where you have a few options to choose from you can also find out the way you can vary what you pay from a menu that guides you through it.
All you will need for online car insurance with AAMI at the final stage is your name, email, mailing address, phone number and obviously a credit card to pay, although they do have the BPAY option here too.
Make sure you read all the terms and conditions on any insurance policy before you commit as your circumstances and what you want you’re insurance to provide may be different to us and if you do have any extra questions, you can call them.
So all in all it was a pretty easy process getting the car insurance in Brisbane online and all we are waiting for now is the letter to come in the mail which takes around 2 to 3 days.
Another insurance payment down, now I can rest easy until the next one comes in.
