The family and I went to the Boondall Wetlands for an afternoon walk.
The Boondall Wetlands reserve has hectares and hectares of tidal flats, mangroves, marshes, melaleuca wetlands, grasslands, forests and the woodlands, the entrance is located across the road from the Brisbane Entertainment Centre so it is easy to find and also easy to get a car park too.
The first thing about this area was, I drive past it pretty much every day for work and have really never noticed it and if I did notice it I didn’t realize what it was at all, so I’m wondering how many other people don’t realize what lies at their footstep to burn a few lunchtime calories and go for a nice walk with the family.
There is an information centre there (With toilets) and basically 2 walks, one of about 2km and one that is a walking and bike track of around 8 ½ km, so depending on your time there is a few choices, for us today it was the shorter track (Which was a little shorter too due to maintenance on half the track).
The view while walking is quite different, very sparse from the salt water coming and going, so not your typical bush walk we have been on before but still beautiful none the less.
We walked out to the bird watching hut and stayed there for a while and walked back, so not too long and at the end of the day we made it to the car just as the mosquito’s were just starting to come out.
They have free things to do for kids during the holidays here too which involve adventure walks and discovery, then craft at the end of these sessions.
So if you have a few spare hours to kill and want to get some fresh salty air into your lungs and look at some wildlife while you are at it, head on down to Boondall Wetlands for an afternoon.
