What do you want to get out of your holiday travel plans should be one of the first things to consider when you want to travel, especially if you are thinking of travelling with your kids?
If you consider at the beginning what you want out of the holiday this can affect your decisions for a few other things too, like where you go, where you will stay and what you will do while you are at the destination.
I’ll give you a few examples that we have done over the years.
The first one is when we travelled to Europe, we went to Italy then France, Spain, Portugal and then back to France again over a five and a half week period.
The goal of the holiday travel, and we discussed this from the beginning, was to sight see through the trip and also take in as many experiences along the way.
We then planned our days and our inter country travel accordingly and the days were very full.
We also included many modes of travel too, this included a hire car, trains and planes.
So the decision to be a sightseeing trip meant we had to choose hotels close to what we wanted to do in each city or area as to maximise our time there and get the most out of the trip, because let’s face it, you may not ever get back to the countries or places you have visited ever again, a bit sad but a reality of travelling though so you have to see it while you are there.
Also we had one child then so picking the right hotel to cater for this was also a factor.
The second example for you is completely different, a relaxing trip to Thailand to stay in a resort.
The goal of this holiday travel as you probably can already tell was to relax and stay in the one place to maximise the down time and recharge the batteries.
We booked a room at a resort, packed up the two kids we had by then and flew to Thailand for a ten day holiday at Movenpick Resort in Karon Beach, Phuket.
We scheduled in the usual holiday stuff to do while we were there and it was very chilled and relaxed for us and the kids too.
We just flew to one destination and then stayed in one place, easy, no fuss and relaxing.
As you can see above, these are two completely different holidays for us and were reflective of where we were in our lives at the time too.
The first, with only one child to take around Europe was a sightseeing holiday full of hustle and bustle with lots of walking and travelling.
The second with two kids was the break we needed from the full on family and work life we had at the time.
So take the time to think about what you want out of your holiday travel from the beginning and will make it so much more enjoyable for you and your family if you are taking them away too.
