Free parking in Brisbane City is on offer over the weekend in two of the Brisbane City Councils car parks.
The two car parks are King George Square carpark and also the Wickham Terrace carpark.
I have written about the King George Square carpark in Roma Street before as the best carpark in Brisbane City for football games at Suncorp Stadium but I couldn’t remember where the Wickham Terrace car park was and the entry and exit points.
The two addresses for the free carparks are below.
Brisbane City CBD Carpark
The free parking in Brisbane City is for the G20 which is over a long weekend.
So this offer is for Friday 14th, Saturday 15th and Sunday the 16th of November and the carparks are open 24 hours.
There is over 1000 carparks available free over this time.
My reason for writing about the carparks in the city is the bride and I were talking about the G20 and I have been listening to the radio a fair bit about the situation in the city in regards to it potentially being a ghost town.
Now we have lived in Brisbane on the Northside for a fair while now, we have a young family and we do venture into Brisbane City every now and then with the kids to do things like the Riverwalk or ride the City Hopper.
Why would we go into Brisbane City this coming G20 weekend?
The reason surely wouldn’t be saving the $5 parking fee that is usually offered at these carparks on the weekends.
Also, I’m sure that every man and his dog will be parking there if they work in Brisbane City or are travelling to work at the G20 too.
Why wouldn’t you?
So the carparks would more than likely be full within the first hours of Friday morning and stay that way over the weekend with over 3000 journalists and 4000 delegates and more in town.
There are a few things on in and around the area but certainly nothing, which for us as a family, would draw us into Brisbane City for the weekend on any of the days over the long weekend.
There is a risk factor here too, the media frenzy mixed with potential protests, heightened security and road closures throughout the whole area would mean we would have to be on the lookout for the kids and also on the lookout ourselves for potential situations that may arise.
So, like many Brisbane families I feel, we will be staying away from Brisbane City for the long weekend and still enjoying out in the suburbs what Brisbane and Queensland has to offer, as we usually do.
Watching the news on TV at night to see and to keep up with what is happening in and around the city.
And then when our city goes back to normal we can venture back in and enjoy it again, safely.
That’s my 2 cents on why we won’t be venturing in and taking up the offer of free parking in the Brisbane City CBD.
Maybe a Free Family Parking Weekend for Brisbane City might work for us leading into Christmas….
