I have been going down to Costco North Lakes since it opened, taking pictures, looking around, keeping an eye on things which includes what people are paying for petrol at Costco and I have to say the Costco petrol price at North Lakes has been great for us so far.
I have a work vehicle so I use this during the day but we do have a family car which the Bride uses for work and as the kids taxi as most of us do.
It is a fairly big car and so, a little thirsty on the gas (Not as bad as VW’s though, but that is another story….), so any savings or filling up at the top of the price cycle of fuel helps us out and puts a few more dollars back into our pocket.
It usually costs over $100 to fill our car and we have to do it about once or twice a month generally so Costco petrol station coming to the Brisbane Northside area was a bit exciting after doing plenty of reading on how cheap it was to buy.
We got our memberships and so we were just waiting for the car fuel to be down and the light just coming on so we can fill up the tank again, we went to Costco a few times before this and I have to tell you now, after going to the opening day, the traffic is still really bad during most peak times through the week and just ridiculous at certain times over the weekend, so I can say this….
Time your run if you are travelling to Costco North Lakes and make sure you allow for extra time too so you won’t be stressed if you do get caught up in the traffic jams and also the long lines that are still occurring to get membership cards.
Above is a picture from the top of the car park looking down towards Costco and as you can see it looks like half of Brisbane and half of North Lakes decided to come on down for a Sunday afternoon look see.
The process for getting petrol at Costco North Lakes is pretty easy too, you have to have a Costco membership card first and foremost, without one of these cards, you won’t get fuel.
You swipe your Costco card first, then your credit card, then enter in how much petrol you want and then put the nozzle in the tank and squeeze the handle, easy!
On another note here too, if you fill up usually and don’t really know how much petrol your car will take, you just make sure you enter in the amount higher than what your car would take, the bank and Costco do the rest if you only take under what you entered and so your card won’t get charged for the higher amount.
So are the petrol prices at Costco North lakes good?
They certainly have been for us and they are driving the other service stations petrol prices down in the area too, so the competition has been great for the consumer this time.
We paid $1.38 for the first time we filled up and our local petrol stations and others were at $1.60 plus at that time, it does seem to have changed in the last weeks though with other petrol stations coming to the party price wise for petrol.
Also it is the experience for us too, you go do a top up shop and fill up with petrol at the same time.
Lastly and the biggest point which people with families more than likely forget, or don’t realise and this is a clincher especially for mum’s with a car full of kids, so I ask you, what do you do with your young family when you get petrol at the petrol station?
You have to get them out of the car to go and pay the bill, especially if you have a couple of little ones like we do and this is where Costco wins hands down for mothers.
Now where does this leave you if you have two kids asleep in the back, it leaves you with much pain waking them up to take them in.
This is where the Costco petrol station is a winner, winner, chicken dinner.
You get out of your car, you swipe your cards, you fill up and you get back in the car and drive off, wow, I wonder why Costco North Lakes and Costco Australia don’t run a whole advertising campaign on TV, Newspapers and in the Magazines with this fact as it certainly is a untold key selling point of the Costco petrol stations when you have little kids or any kids for that matter.
So not only has the Costco petrol price at North Lakes been great for us (Mainly the Bride), it has been very convenient at the same time.
